Four things worth knowing about UV, for anyone living with Central Queensland sun.
You can't see UV or feel it, so a cool or cloudy day tells you nothing. Protection is recommended at UV 3 or above, and Queensland gets there every day of the year.
Both contribute to sunburn, skin ageing and skin cancer, and exposure adds up on the days you never go red. "Broad spectrum" means a sunscreen filters both.
In a Queensland trial, adults under 55 asked to use sunscreen every day showed 24% less skin ageing after four and a half years than those who used it as they pleased.
Broad spectrum and water resistant.
Put it on before you head outside.
For your face, neck and ears.
Reapply, and again after swimming or sweating.
Add a hat, shade, sleeves and sunglasses.
A spot that's new or changing
That needs a skin check with your GP or a skin cancer clinic. A cosmetic consultation isn't a skin check.
To talk about your skin more generally, consultations are with me at 330 Agnes Street, The Range.
