Governance

How we govern your care

Cosmetic treatment is medicine, so it deserves the framework of medicine. Here's how care is structured, recorded and made accountable at Hillview — the standards behind every consultation.

Good cosmetic care isn't only about the treatment itself — it's about the structure around it: who's accountable, how medicines are handled, how decisions are made and recorded, and what happens afterwards. This page explains, in plain terms, the framework Hillview is built on. It's the same rigour you'd expect from any other part of your healthcare, applied to a treatment you've chosen electively.

One accountable practitioner

At Hillview, your consultation, assessment, prescribing decision and treatment are carried out by the same registered medical practitioner — Dr Michael Kirk (MBBS), AHPRA registration MED0001217081. The person who assesses whether a treatment is suitable is the person who plans and provides it, and who remains responsible for your care through to follow-up. There's no hand-off between assessment and treatment, and no decision made by someone you haven't met.

Custody of medicines

Some cosmetic treatments involve prescription medicines. At Hillview, those medicines are held and administered under the treating doctor's own onsite custody — the same practitioner who assesses you, prescribes for you and treats you. Keeping prescribing and custody in the one set of hands is a deliberate part of how the clinic is structured, and it's the standard we've chosen to hold ourselves to.

Assessment first, always

Part of proper governance is being willing to say no. Not everyone is a suitable candidate for every treatment, and a genuine assessment sometimes ends with a recommendation against treatment — for medical reasons, or simply because it wouldn't serve your goals. Declining to treat, when that's the right answer, is one of the most important safeguards there is.

Informed consent as a process

Informed consent isn't a form signed at the end. It's a conversation: making sure you genuinely understand what a treatment involves, what it can and can't do, the material risks and possible complications, the recovery, the likely need for repeat treatment over time, and the alternatives — including choosing not to proceed. Only once that's clear, and your questions are answered, does treatment become an option.

  • A clear explanation of the procedure and what it's designed to address
  • The material risks and possible complications, specific to you
  • What recovery may involve, including time and any temporary effects
  • That results vary between individuals, and may need maintenance over time
  • The alternatives, including no treatment at all

Records and follow-up

Every consultation and treatment is documented in a proper clinical record, kept confidentially and in line with Australian privacy requirements. Structured follow-up is part of the standard, not an afterthought — you'll receive clear aftercare guidance and a point of contact for any questions once you've left the clinic. Continuity of records means the doctor treating you always has the full picture of your history.

Raising a concern

You're entitled to raise a concern about any aspect of your care at any time, and to be given the information you need to do so. Open, accountable care — including making it easy to ask questions or raise an issue — is part of the standard the clinic holds itself to.
