Doctor or nurse, what's the difference?

Cosmetic injectables in Rockhampton are offered under different models. Here's an honest explanation of how they differ, and why it might matter to you.

Cosmetic injectables are prescription treatments, so by law they involve a prescriber. But how that requirement is met varies between clinics, and it's a reasonable thing to want to understand before you choose. Here's an honest explanation.

The common models

In many clinics, treatment is performed by a registered nurse working with a prescribing doctor who provides oversight, and that prescriber may or may not be present at the time of treatment. This is a lawful, common and often well-run model. In a doctor-led model like Hillview's, the same registered medical practitioner assesses you, makes the prescribing decision, and performs the treatment, with no hand-off between assessment and treatment.

Why it might matter to you

Neither model is “the only safe one.” What a doctor-as-sole-injector model offers is continuity: the person who judges whether a treatment is suitable is the person who carries it out and remains responsible for your care afterward. For some people that continuity matters more than for others, particularly where medical history, contraindications, or the question of whether to treat at all are part of the picture.

  • One practitioner across assessment, prescribing and treatment
  • No hand-off between the person who assesses and the person who treats
  • Whole-patient context kept in view throughout

How Hillview works

At Hillview, Dr Kirk personally performs every consultation, assessment and treatment. There's no hand-off, and no decision made by someone you haven't met. You can read more about how we govern your care.

The choice is yours

Both models are lawful and widely used. What matters is that you understand how your care is delivered and are comfortable with it. If you'd like to talk it through, you're welcome to ask.
